Gene expression in the fly optic lobe

This website presents cell type-specific TAPIN-seq profiles of gene expression in the fly brain, focusing on the visual system (Davis and Nern et al., 2018).

The visual system begins with photoreceptor neurons and contains several layers of connected optic lobe neurons which process incoming luminance signals into multiple parallel streams of visual information. In the paper above we show that transcriptomes, combined with connectomes, can help characterize how this circuit transmits and processes information across a range of scales, from individual synapses to circuit pathways.
